ABOUT

Save Our Shores (SOS) is a community-led initiative dedicated to preserving public access, natural beauty, and recreational space along Sydney Harbour, especially the Woolwich foreshore. We’re rallying to prevent the privatisation and exclusive commercialisation of these public areas, which are under threat from proposed developments. Woolwich Marina has lodged a Development Application for an expansion that would block iconic views, restrict access, and impact the rich heritage and environmental significance of this area.

The proposed marina expansion would monopolise public waters, creating space for luxury powerboats while obstructing views of the UNESCO World Heritage site, Cockatoo Island, from beloved local landmarks like Kelly’s Bush and Clarkes Point. This development risks turning our shared waterways into exclusive zones, detracting from the natural enjoyment available to kayakers, sailors, and recreational users who cherish these shores.

VERNON STREET

At SOS, we believe public lands and waters belong to everyone. Join us in also protecting 16C Vernon Street - 500m2 of prime foreshore public land next to Serpentine Road. Council have voted to declare this as 'surplus land' suitable for sale.  Not only is the land accessible and able to connect Mornington Reserve to Serpentine Road and The Great Northern Walk, but council paid $2.5m to buy this 'forever public land' 20 years ago.

Together, we can stop this development and safeguard our shores for future generations.

Woolwich Marina Petition

Our community has a proud history of standing together to protect our natural resources. From the iconic 1970s campaign to save Kelly’s Bush—the birthplace of Australia’s “green bans” movement—locals have always fought to preserve the unique beauty and accessibility of our foreshore. Today, we continue that legacy as we face a new threat to our public spaces.

We, the undersigned, oppose the proposed expansion of Woolwich Marina, which threatens to privatise our shared waters, block public views of heritage sites, and limit access for local residents and visitors alike.

The Woolwich foreshore and its surrounding waterways are a cherished part of our community, offering open space, natural beauty, and recreational opportunities. We believe public lands and waters should remain accessible to all, not reserved for exclusive commercial use.

Help us protect Woolwich and the wider Sydney Harbour area from privatisation. Sign today to save our shores!
